Shetland Demonstration

At the Wrightsons Small Farm Field Day - Riccarton Racecourse

"Despite the weatherman's dire predictions of snow and torrential rain, Saturday 4th October was a lovely sunny day. Over 20,000 people attended the Wrightsons Small Farm Field day enjoying everything from fencing and lavendar farming to Shetland ponies.

We had a constant stream of visitors to our site and they were able to see four Shetlands on display, as well as an active display in the parade ring over the lunch hour.

Craig Crosado told a receptive audience about the history of the Shetland pony and the many advantages of owing one of these delightful ponies, while Thorpeville Dione, ridden by Kimberley Baker and Cotswold Archdale ridden by Chelsea Brown, gave a display that included lead rein, riding and jumping.

Cotswold Bexley Heath and his regular rider Ted E Bear also made an appearance as a Canterbury Crusader shetland and even did a round of the jumps.

Special thanks go to everyone that helped with our site. An extra special thank you goes to our Shetlands: Thorpeville Dione, Cotswold Archdale, Rockisle Phoenix, Rockisle Ebony Knight, Rockisle Black Onyx and Cotswold Bexley Heath.

This was a very successful promotion for the Society and we will be participating in the next Small Farm Field Day in 2004.
