Click here for the Steeplechase 2003

This year we again ran two Shetland Steeplechases. Our first event was on Saturday 28th October at the Amberley A. & P. Show, at approximately 2 pm, followed two weeks later by the Grand National Steeplechase at the Canterbury A. & P. Show on Show day - Friday 17th November, from 3.15 to 3.30.

The photos were taken after the 2006 Shetland Steeplechase (the line up) and in the Grand Parade.

The field this year was made up of the following ponies:
  1. Freddy (Kilmarnock Kolidoscope) A full of fun, nuggety little skewbald standing approximately 9.1 hh. Freddy has competed in the steeplechases since they first began in 1999. Freddy is owned by Kim and Mark Brown

  2. Sam I Am (Murrayfield Sam I Am) Sam is an 8 year old, 10hh brown/black pony who started steeple chasing in 2003. He has completed in one-day events, and regularly goes to pony club. He is also owned by Kim and Mark Brown

  3. Skippy (Rockisle El Dorado) Skippy is a large skewbald gelding, approx 10.1hh and is, at present, being broken in for his first steeplechase. He is the third representative from the Kim and Mark Brown stable.

  4. Hawk Wing (Cotswold HawkWing) is loaned to us by Heather Glassey for the 4th year. He is a solid skewbald, about 9.1hh and is easily identified as he paws the ground at the start of the race - it's all talk though as he would rather just saunter around.

  5. Finesse (Llewellyn Finesse) The littlest and oldest (now 14 years). A black mare owned by Lesley and Paul Lewis. This will be her 6th season steeple chasing.

  6. Foxfire (Cotswold Foxfire) Foxy is a tall skewbald standing at full height (10.2hh) owned by Diana Humphries and Lesley Lewis. He will be competing for the 2nd year.

  7. Archie (Cotswold Archdale) owned by Diana Humphries, Archie is a 10 year old Dun Skewbald gelding of solid build competing for the 5th year and known for his 'cheating' tactics and large waistline!

  8. Passion Flower (Cotswold Passion Flower) is a steel grey mare owned by Diana Humphries, who is being broken in for her first steeple chase. We have tried to shorten her name but decided the commentators may like to have fun with her present name!

  9. C.J. (Mainland Cracker Jack) C.J. will be our 10th pony at Canterbury, but will not be at Amberley due to harness commitments. C.J. is a full height, lazy, black harness pony with a wicked sense of humour. He is loaned to us by Jean Reid.

  10. Stormy (Beechgrove Storm Cloud) owned by Sue McLaughlin, Stormy stands at approximately 9.3hh. He is a black gelding who is also being broken in for his first steeplechase. His full sister blitzed the field last year so he could be the one to watch.

  11. Felicia - First Emergency: (Cotswold Felicia) 11 year old Grey mare owned by Sue McLaughlin) 12 year old 9.2 hh mare. Laid back attitude but has quick action when required.

Our Riders this year are: Jessica Brown (11), Chelsea Brown (9), Emma Hanna (12), Charlotte Wadsworth (9), Claudia Sullivan (9), Kerryn O'Sullivan (10), Megan Taylor (8), Katie Meredith (13) and Alex Meredith - representing the male gender (11)
